5 Simple Steps To Slow Life Down This Summer

Even for an event planner like me, planning my wedding has been…an adventure. I’ve learned a lot about myself over the past ten months (post to come on this soon!) and as we approach the two-month countdown, I’m making it a priority to slow life down as much as I can. Don’t get me wrong, I love being busy and being on the go but I’ve sacrificed tranquility and I really feel it’s now time to give it its place back in my life. Here are five simple steps I’ve been taking to slow life down that could be very helpful to you…

  1. Go outside: We spend a lot of time indoors behind a computer, at a desk, or in a car driving from location to location or appointment to appointment but the feeling of being outside with no where to go, simply taking in the beautiful weather is like no other. This is huge for me because being outside is what helps me clear my mind and regain my peace. I dare you to try it, head out and enjoy the breeze.
  2. Opt out of some summer events: I get it, summer is THE time for all social events so I can understand that we want to be out and about! Yes, the weather is beautiful, the patios are open and once it gets hot enough most of us are going to want to be pool sidin’ it all the time. But, with that comes being busy every weekend and sometimes several weeknights and then we’re left not really enjoying summer, just rushing through it. So once again…kick FOMO to the curb! Opt out of some events so you can really enjoy (and be awake) for the ones that are most important to you.
  3. Do things alone: Often times we feel rushed because we’re doing things on someone else’s time. I recommend doing things alone sometimes so you don’t feel pressured or stressed to be anywhere at any specific time. It’ll also allow you to enjoy your own company and get lost in your thoughts. 🙂
  4. Go on a road trip: Whether it’s one hour away or a bit further, get in your car or on a bus/train and head somewhere outside of your daily environment. If you’re someone like me who feels bad when she can’t attend every event then physically removing yourself from your day-to-day life will do you some good.
  5. Learn to prioritize yourself: This final step consists of several steps; it’s about prioritizing the things you need to do to keep your mind at peace, your body in shape and your soul fed. This is different for everyone but of the upmost importance for us all. Love you and help you…then you can be better placed to be of service to others.

I’d love to hear about the steps you take to slow life down when things get too hectic! Let me know in the comments below.

Father’s Day | Simple Gift Guide

With Father’s Day creeping up on us fairly quickly! For those of you who haven’t gotten around to doing some shopping for the main man in your life, I’m helping you out with a simple gift guide to help keep the last minute shopping stress to a minimum. Check it out!

1. A fresh, creaseless, fitted dress shirt for Father’s Day lunch or dinner will make any man feel like a million bucks.

2. I don’t care what anyone says, a man always loves a great quality watch! Spoil your dad this year and get him some bling! Two options here and here.

3. If your Dad is anything like mine, a pair of sunglasses to mix and match with different outfits is a HUGE winner. Something cool and stylish is perfect.

4. If your Dad isn’t into fashion, that’s A-Okay! BUT he definitely wants to smell fantastic when he’s going out so a smooth smelling cologne is a great addition to a Father’s Day gift basket.

5. Surprise him with a fresh new pair of summer sandals AND a picnic at the beach with the fam jam! Aww, quality family time. 🙂

6. I really hate seeing men with bulging wallets so if your Dad doesn’t have a slim clip wallet yet, please get him one! He will love it.

7. Does your Father love manning the BBQ? If so, a fresh new BBQ tool set will keep him grillin’ alllll summer long!

8. For all the sport lovers out there…if you can’t score your Dad tickets to his favourite sport game, then a jersey and a paid night out with his best buddies to watch the game will make him feel like he’s (almost) attending the game himself! ha.

I wish you all a wonderful Father’s Day celebration and no matter what, Father’s Day isn’t about gifts it’s about spending time with the wonderful men in your lives.

Life Lately | Simply Exploring

Happy to be back to the blogging world today! I took some time over the last week and a half to do a lot of random, impromptu activities to get back in touch with myself amidst all the wedding planning hecticness.

Here’s what I’ve been up to 🙂

Our engagement shoot day finally came, we were getting so anxious and excited for it and when we got a sneak peek of the photos…we were speechless! A HUGE shoutout, thank you and a million hugs to Narsete Photography. We can’t wait for the wedding! 2.5 months to go until the big day!

And then…off to Toronto I went! Huge shoutout to my girlfriends for ‘kidnapping’ me and taking me on an ‘impromptu’ MUCH NEEDED roadie! Perfect timing to get away for a bit and catch my breath.

We attended the Marilyn Denis Show which was a pretty cool experience! Seeing all the behind the scenes work that happens for each episode and being in the front row during the entire show was awesome! Not to mention meeting Nickelback…love them! Check us out when the show airs LIVE on Thursday, June 29th.

p.s. my dress is from Forever 21…DEF taking this to Mexico for my honeymoon.

I decided to spoil myself  a bit and I bought these amazing wedges from Spring Canada…they are ridiculously comfortable and stylish. I’m getting the exact same pair in black…don’t judge me! ha.

We headed over to Nadège Toronto for coffee and treats and let me tell you, I was in pastry heaven!

SO many goodies to choose from!!!

I opted for an iced latte and a chocolate almond croissant….obviously my favs!

Finally…this past weekend I helped my friend Vania (Founder of Twenty3 Events) decorate and coordinate a wedding she’s been planning for a while now. It was so much fun! I reignited my love for event planning. Congratulations, Yohan & Erica! xo

I just want to mention how GORGEOUS this floral arrangement is….WOWZERS!

All in all, I had a pretty eventful week and a bit and I’m happy to be back to some sort of a routine. I needed some time to disconnect and do things that I enjoy.

Do you ever take some time off/away to disconnect? If so, what’s your favourite thing to do?

Stay tuned for my next post!
